About Instant Access Discussions

  • When Instant Access is enabled, anyone can access the discussion with a specified role by following the link.
  • Users who are not logged in to Kialo Edu are prompted to enter a username to use in each discussion when they first access it. They can change their discussion username(s) later in the Discussion Settings if required.
  • You can change the role participants have at any time.
  • Be wary of students sharing the discussion link outside of the classroom, as anyone with the link will be able to contribute.
  • If a discussion with Instant Access enabled has been stopped, anyone following the link will be able to view the discussion, but new users are not prompted to enter a username and users cannot make any changes. If the discussion is started again, the username prompt will reappear for new users and users can make changes as appropriate for their role.
  • If you only want users to easily participate with Kialo Edu accounts, you only need to enable Link Sharing.

Enabling and Disabling Instant Access Discussions

Note: To enable or disable Instant Access you must have Admin permissions or higher.

To enable an Instant Access Discussion:

  1. Click the Share button in the top-right of the discussion.
  2. Check the Instant Access (Don’t Require Kialo Accounts) option. The Link Sharing option is automatically activated and the URL to your discussion appears.
  3. Select your desired role for participants to join with in the drop-down menu located to the right of the URL. This can be changed at any time.

Your discussion now has Instant Access enabled. Share the URL or QR code with your students.

To disable an Instant Access Discussion:

  1. Click the Share button in the top-right of the discussion.
2. Uncheck the Instant Access (Don’t Require Kialo Accounts) and/or Link Sharing options as required.

Tip: If you wish to revoke permissions for everyone without a specific role in the discussion, disable both the Instant Access and Link Sharing options.
