Cloning a Discussion
Tips:
If you intend to clone a discussion for multiple groups of students, using the Small Group Mode feature may be more appropriate.
Cloning a discussion will create a copy of it as a a new discussion. You can customize several settings to control what information will be carried over from the original discussion.
There are two ways to clone a discussion; either from the My Kialo page or from inside a discussion you already have open:
- In My Kialo, click the ⋮ Menu icon to the right of the intended discussion.
- Select Clone.
- Optionally, enter a new name for the cloned discussion.
- Enable or disable the following options as desired:
- Copy comments, history and archived claims: If checked, your discussion clone will include all previous claim history in the discussion, including comments and claim activity (such as where the claim has previously been moved or linked to/from, previous deleted claims which can be undeleted, etc). If unchecked, the claims will be cloned as a “fresh” copy with no history.
- Copy authors of contributions: If checked, the original authors of the claims will appear as their creators in your clone. If unchecked, you will appear as the author of all claims in the clone.
- Copy votes: If checked, the current status of the impact meters on claims (i.e. how users have voted on claims in the discussion) will appear in your clone. If unchecked, the impact meters will be empty (and can be voted on as new).
- (If Tasks are enabled) Copy progress for tasks: If checked, the progress participants have made on tasks will be carried over to the cloned discussion.
- (If Grading and Feedback is enabled) Copy feedback and grades: If checked, the feedback you’ve given to participants overall and on their claims will be carried over to the cloned discussion, as well as any grades assigned.
- Only copy: If checked, only the following claims will be cloned with the discussion as selected:
- The thesis: Only the thesis of the discussion will be cloned, with none of the claims.
- The first two levels: Only the thesis and the top level of pro and con claims will be copied.
- Click Clone.
- Open the discussion to clone.
- Click the ≡ Menu icon in the top-left of a discussion and select Settings.
- Scroll down and click the Clone Discussion button.
- Optionally, enter a new name for the cloned discussion.
