About the Waiting Room

You’ll be placed in the Waiting Room if you attempt to access a discussion that is not yet ready for you to start contributing to.

There are two versions of the Waiting Room, each with different reasons why you cannot contribute yet. You can tell which one you’re in by the text displayed:

  • Welcome! You will automatically join the discussion once it has been started.

You can’t access the discussion yet as your educator hasn’t enabled student participation, or has chosen to manually sort students into groups on Kialo but hasn’t assigned you to a group. You’ll be able to access the discussion once your educator enables student participation and/or has added you to a group.
  • Initializing your discussion, please wait. (Why the delay?)

Kialo is still in the process of creating the groups for your discussion, and you haven’t been assigned to a group yet. Try again in a few minutes; you’ll be able to access the discussion once Kialo finishes the group creation process and automatically assigns you to a group.

In either scenario, if you believe you should be able to access the discussion at this point but are unable to do so, please contact your educator.
