About Moving and Linking Claims
Claims in a discussion can be either moved to, or linked in, a new location.
Moving a claim to a new location will remove it from its old location.
Linking a claim will copy it to a new location, while also keeping it in its original location. Edits to a linked claim in one location in a discussion will apply to all locations of the claim, and claims added or removed under a linked claim will also be added or removed in all locations of the linked claim. Put simply, changes to a linked claim (as well as the claims underneath it) will be reflected everywhere it is linked. The exception to this is if a linked claim is deleted in one location - it will still exist in other locations in the discussion where it has been linked.
As such, if a claim is better placed in a new location, it should be moved there. If a claim is appropriately placed in multiple locations, it should be linked there.
How to Move or Link a Claim
To move or link a claim, first copy it to your clipboard. You can do this in multiple ways: drag the claim into the clipboard located in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen; click on the three dots that appear at the top-right-hand of a claim while you hover over it, or, right-click on the claim to open the claim menu, and select 'Copy to Clipboard'. The claim should then appear in your clipboard in the bottom left-hand corner.
Once you have copied a claim to your clipboard, you can either drag & drop it from the clipboard onto an existing claim (on the left-hand side will place it under that claim as a pro, on the right-hand side will place it under that claim as a con), or to the top of any column of pros or cons to add it to that column. You can also open the claim menu on the claim you wish to move or link it under and select ‘Paste’. A pop-up will appear asking if you wish to move or link the claim in the new location.
This short video will also walk you through the steps required to move/link a claim, as well as several other key features of a Kialo discussion.
