Use the Kialo Schoology App<\/a><\/strong><\/p><p>Kialo is included as an integrated app in the <a href=\"https:\/\/powerschool.schoology.com\/apps\/profile\/7884184374\">Schoology App Center<\/a>. This is the most convenient way to use Kialo with Schoology; however, it must be installed by an Admin. Using the Kialo Schoology app has the following benefits:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students will be automatically signed in to Kialo using their Schoology name (or have accounts created for them).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will have the same name in Kialo as their Schoology account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Roles in the Kialo discussion will be automatically assigned for students (Writer) and teachers (Admin).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kialo discussions can be embedded directly in Schoology, allowing students to participate in Kialo discussions without leaving the Schoology platform.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only members of your Schoology course can access the Kialo discussion by default.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p><br><\/p><p><\/p><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><a href=\"#2-use-lti\">2. Use LTI<\/a><\/strong><\/p><p>An LTI-based connection is the recommended method to use Kialo with Schoology if you can&rsquo;t use the app. It offers most of the benefits the app does; however, it takes a bit longer to set up, and updates won&rsquo;t be applied automatically.<\/p><p><br><\/p><p><\/p><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><a href=\"#3-link-to-a-standard-kialo-discussion\">3. Link to a standard Kialo discussion<\/a><\/strong><\/p><p>This makes it very easy to have a quick discussion with your students.<br><br><br><br><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Use the Kialo Schoology App<\/h2><p>Before the Kialo app can be used in a course, it must first be installed from the <a href=\"https:\/\/powerschool.schoology.com\/apps\/profile\/7884184374\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Schoology App Center<\/a> by an administrator. After it has been installed, to add Kialo to a course:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click <strong>Add Materials<\/strong>, select <strong>Kialo<\/strong>, and click <strong>Continue<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Select a Kialo discussion<\/strong> or create a <strong>New<\/strong> one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <em>settings icon<\/em> next to the new material you added and select <strong>Edit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For Tool Provider, select <strong>Kialo<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, click <strong>Save<\/strong>.  <\/li>\n<\/ol><p><br><br><br><br><br><\/p><p><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Use LTI<\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teachers: Using Kialo on Schoology<\/h3><p><strong>Setting Up Kialo in Your Course<\/strong><\/p><p>After Kialo has been added as an app to your Schoology instance by an admin, you should enable it as an External Tool. This only needs to be done once per course: <\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In your course, open <strong>Course Options<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>External Tool Providers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Kialo<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Submit<\/strong>.  <\/li>\n<\/ol><div>\n                    <div class=\" plethoraplugins-accordion plethoraplugins-theme__minimal plethoraplugins-theme__basic \">\n                        <div>\n                            \n<div id=\"if_kialo_doesnt_appear_as_an_external_tool_provider\" class=\"pds-accordion__item pds-js-accordion-item pds-no-js\" data-pds-tabs--initially-open=\"false\" data-pds-tabs--click-to-close=\"true\" data-pds-tabs--auto-close=\"true\" data-pds-tabs--scroll=\"false\" data-pds-tabs--scroll-offset=\"0\" data-pds-tabs--icon-type=\"\" data-pds-tabs--icon=\"true\" data-pds-tabs--icon-size=\"\">\n                    <div id=\"at-if_kialo_doesnt_appear_as_an_external_tool_provider\" class=\"pds-accordion__title pds-js-accordion-controller\"><span class=\"pds-accordion__heading\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"3\">If Kialo doesn&rsquo;t appear as an External Tool Provider <\/span><span class=\"pds-accordion__icon\" role=\"presentation\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewbox=\"0 0 12 7.4099998\" width=\".75rem\" height=\".75rem\"><path d=\"M12 1.41 10.59 0 6 4.58 1.41 0 0 1.41l6 6z\" fill=\"currentColor\"><\/path><\/svg><\/span><\/div>\n                    <div id=\"ac-if_kialo_doesnt_appear_as_an_external_tool_provider\" class=\"pds-accordion__content\">\n                        \n\n<p>If Kialo does not appear as an External Tool Provider, it likely hasn&rsquo;t been installed for your course. To install it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In your course, click <strong>Install Your App(s)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Kialo<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Submit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n\n                        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                    \n            <\/div><p><strong>Adding Kialo to your Course<\/strong><\/p><p>After enabling Kialo as an External Tool, to add a Kialo discussion to your course:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click <strong>Add Materials<\/strong>, select <strong>Kialo<\/strong>, and click <strong>Continue<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Select a Kialo discussion<\/strong> or create a <strong>New<\/strong> one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <em>settings icon<\/em> next to the new material you added and select <strong>Edit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For Tool Provider, select <strong>Kialo<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, click <strong>Save<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ol><p><\/p><p>Done! When students click the link, they will automatically have the correct permissions to participate in the discussion.<\/p><p><br><\/p><p><\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Admins: Setting up Kialo on Schoology<\/h3><p>To add Kialo as an app on your Schoology instance:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the <a href=\"https:\/\/app.schoology.com\/apps\/publisher\">Apps Publisher page<\/a> and click <strong>+Add App<\/strong>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the following:<br><br>Name: Kialo<br>Description: <em><em>any<\/em><\/em><br>Category: <em>any<\/em><br>Availability: <em>as appropriate<\/em> <em>for your instance<\/em><br><br>Configuration Type: Manual<br>Privacy: Send Name and Email\/Username&hellip;<br><br>In the LTI Advantage Extensions section, <strong>enable<\/strong> Assignment and Grade Services.<br><br>JWKS URL: https:\/\/www.kialo-edu.com\/lti\/jwks.json<br>Domain\/URL: https:\/\/www.kialo-edu.com<br>OIDC Login Init URL: https:\/\/www.kialo-edu.com\/lti\/start<br>Redirect URLs: https:\/\/www.kialo-edu.com\/lti\/launch<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check<\/strong> the Terms of Use, then click <strong>Submit<\/strong>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, click <strong>Install LTI 1.3 App<\/strong> and agree to any pop-up requests.<\/li>\n<\/ol><p>Done! Kialo Edu should now appear in the Apps list, and educators can enable and add it to their courses. <br><br><br><br><\/p><p><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Link to an Instant Access Kialo discussion<\/h2><p>Use this if you do not want your students to create Kialo accounts.&nbsp;<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In Kialo, enter your discussion and click the<strong> Share<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enable Instant Access (don&rsquo;t require Kialo accounts)<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Copy the link<\/strong> and use it in your course.<br><br><br><br><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are three recommended ways to use Kialo with Schoology:1.
