Setting up an assignment for students on Kialo is simple. Below you’ll find a step-by-step guide on how to set up an assignment and invite your students to it.<\/p>

  1. Create a discussion.<\/strong> You can either create a discussion<\/a> from scratch or clone<\/a> an existing one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Enter any assignment information.<\/strong> The background info<\/a> can be used to outline the assignment, give your students background information, or provide additional resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Add starter claims, if applicable.<\/strong> Depending on the assignment, the discussion can be left blank, or starter claims can be added prior to inviting students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Add students to the discussion.<\/strong> You can invite<\/a> students individually by user name or you can create a sharing link<\/a> and share it with students, allowing them to access the discussion by clicking the link. Make sure to select a role<\/a> that gives students the permissions best suited to your assignment (usually, this is the Writer role). If you want to automatically split students up into groups, you can enable Small Group Mode<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>

    Step back and watch students complete the assignment in real-time!<\/strong> If additional feedback is needed during the assignment, use the Grading and Feedback<\/a> or Mark for Review<\/a> tools, the Discussion Chat<\/a>, or comment<\/a> on specific claims to guide your students. Once the assignment is finished, you can use the Grading and Feedback tool<\/a> to give further feedback to students.<\/p>
