If you’re new to Kialo Edu, the Templates library<\/a><\/strong> is an extensive collection of pre-made discussions you may find useful when getting started with Kialo in the classroom.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>

To create a new discussion:<\/p>

    \n
  1. Navigate to the My Kialo <\/strong>page<\/a> and click the + New<\/strong> button in the top-right corner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Enter a name <\/strong>for your discussion. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Optionally, edit the thesis<\/a> if different from the name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Choose the language <\/strong>of your discussion. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. To get straight into your discussion, click Skip rest and complete<\/strong>. Otherwise, click the > arrow <\/strong>to configure further settings. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Select whether to create a Single Thesis <\/strong>or Multiple Theses<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>discussion. Click the > arrow<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Optionally, add a <\/strong>cover image<\/strong><\/a> and\/or background info<\/strong><\/a> to the discussion. Click the > arrow<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. If desired, check the option to Enable Tasks<\/a><\/strong> and configure the settings as appropriate. Click the > arrow<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Choose the participation type<\/strong>: either Standard Participation<\/strong>, where all participant names are viewable, or Anonymous Participation<\/strong><\/a>. Click the > arrow<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Select whether to enable any further discussion options: Display Claim Authors<\/strong><\/a>; Enable Voting<\/strong><\/a>; and\/or Grading and Feedback<\/strong><\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Finally, click the ✅ green check mark <\/strong>to create your discussion.<\/li>\n<\/ol>

    Saving Custom Default Settings for New Discussions<\/h2>

    If you frequently create new discussions with specific settings, it may be convenient to save a custom configuration as your default settings <\/strong>for creating new discussions.<\/p>

    To do so, configure your desired settings <\/strong>on the Tasks <\/strong>and\/or Options<\/strong> pages (in steps <\/strong>8 and\/or 10 in the above section), then click Save as default<\/strong> on each page. The next time you create a new discussion, these settings will be configured as saved (even if you click the Skip rest and complete<\/strong> button during an earlier step).<\/p>

    To update <\/strong>any default settings, simply adjust the settings as desired on the relevant page, then click Save as default<\/strong> again. To revert to the original default <\/strong>settings, uncheck all options on the pages and click Save as default<\/strong> to remove them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
